Faculty Technology (Re)Orientation Online Workshop Series

Ready for the semester to start? The Institute’s “academic cyberinfrastructure” has changed quite a bit in the past year. This series of three workshops will help get you back up to speed.

We will review the tools and technology available to you at Middlebury; show you how they all work together; refresh your memory on how to access everything; and offer new ideas for what you can do to make your students’ learning experience a success this year.

First and third sessions will be presented virtually via Zoom web conferencing. Sign up for any of the following here

Then join us online on the following days and times:

1. SESSION ONE, Academic Cyberinfrastructure (Re)orientation

– Wednesday 8/16, 3-4:00 PM
Meet us online here: go.miis.edu/facultytech

This workshop is for new and returning faculty. Whether you’re new to the Institute or not, a (re)orientation to Middlebury’s digital tools and platforms that you and your students have access to is always a good idea before the start of term. We’ll cover the basics of Course Hub & Canvas (course site management) and take you on a tour of a number of platforms including:

  • Zoom (video conferencing)
  • Panopto (video recording and hosting)
  • Google Apps for Edu (collaborative suite + unlimited file storage)   as New to the Institute and looking for an orientation to all the curricular technology platforms that you and your students have access to?
  • Middcreate (create your own domain)

We’ll show you how to access these tools, and where you and your students can go to learn more/get support.

See sign-up sheets above to sign up for this session.

2. SESSION TWO, Introduction to Media Management: Web Conferencing, Recording, and Hosting

– On Demand. Click here for detailed text PDF description and tutorial.
– Link to video recording will be available soon.

Get oriented with the Zoom & Panopto platforms.

  • Zoom, Middlebury’s newly adopted web conferencing tool, is a powerful and user-friendly platform for connecting synchronously with colleagues, students and guest speakers across distance.
  • Panopto is a video sharing and storage service that allows you to upload, edit, store and share video with your class. Panopto can be an effective tool to use for video lecture and video annotation.

3. SESSION THREE, Advanced Canvas Course Design
