Canvas

Canvas Adoption Road Map & Transition from Moodle

As of July 1, 2016, Canvas is officially available for the Institute community. Middlebury has adopted the Canvas LMS to replace Moodle. Fall 2016 was the final academic term for provisioning Moodle sites via the Course Hub. Canvas resources are provisioned using the Course Hub. Course Hub is the Institute’s gateway to integrated digital resource management and support for students and faculty.

Moodle Archives Available Through Dec 2018
Provisioning Moodle course sites from Course Hub is no longer supported. Access to Moodle content from previous terms will be maintained in an archive format through Dec 2018. Faculty can access Moodle sites via their personal Course Hub dashboard. This two-year archive timeline has been established to maximize access, provide time, training, and assistance with the management and migration of content to alternative platforms.

  • Faculty Introduction to Teaching with Canvas
Follow this link to login to Middlebury Canvas and access this self-guided resource with a focus on teaching in the Canvas environment. Working through this Canvas resource is highly recommended for all faculty transitioning from Moodle. It provides four modules to help orient new users and is a great example of instructional design possibilities. For those interested in Canvas as a critical, pedagogical tool, check out this blogpost for tips on a few affordances in Canvas.
  • Student Orientation to Canvas

This self-guided Canvas course is designed to help Middlebury students get to know Canvas. While Instructure—the makers of Canvas LMS—provides guides for Canvas users (both instructors and learners), this course provides a step-by-step tour of the most common learning management features.
